I’m on a mission.
I want to help people embrace Mercury retrograde rather than cower at the very thought of it.
Sure, it does seem like there is the potential for more misunderstandings during this time period. And yes, it inexplicably does seem like electronics could go on the fritz more often. And certainly, it’s good to take precautions like backing up your hard drive, clarifying what you say to make sure people really understand your message, and double-checking you don’t hit Reply All when you only want to Reply to an email.
Yet, by viewing Mercury retrograde through a new lens—one that reveals that its intention is not really to cause us communication mishaps and snafus, but rather for us to gain a more holistic understanding of our life path—you can see how this time period can offer some important benefits.
Let me further explain.
When a planet—such as Mercury—is in its retrograde cycle, it appears to be going backwards from our perspective on Earth. “Appears” because it is not truly shifting directions; rather, because of planetary pathways, it seems to be moving with a different orientation.
As such, it’s a great time for us to take a different orientation towards subject matters related to the planet that is retrograde. In the case of Mercury these arenas include communication, education, transportation, merchant services, siblings, and the bridges and networks that connect people, places, and things.
Looking at these areas from a shifted perspective is aided by a simple strategy—adding the prefix “Re” to the Mercury-related activities you undertake. Therefore, focusing upon Re-assessing, Re-writing, Re-editing, Re-drawing, Re-discussing, Re-planning, Re-analyzing, Re-merchandising, Re-designing, Re-negotiating, et al. can be quite beneficial. If you do this, you will see things from a new angle, enabling you get a more holistic understanding of situations at hand. It’s as if Mercury retrograde periods offer us the ability to see the other side of the coin that we don’t usually take the opportunity to view.
During Mercury retrograde we are also awarded the opportunity to re-visit specific developments of our life, which can be especially helpful in providing us with insight that can yield a more complete picture of whatever it is that has drawn our recent attention. During its current retrograde period—October 21 to November 10—Mercury will cover the territory it traveled from October 1 to October 21. Therefore, during this time, we can review and get a new view of things that came to light in the previous weeks. And then, once Mercury goes direct and re-covers this same zodiacal landscape from November 10 to November 26, it’s as if we can put all the pieces together—the two sides of the coins we have explored—to recover and discover a more comprehensive understanding and galvanized action plan.
I hope that with what I have shared you now have a further understanding of how Mercury retrograde isn’t necessarily something to dread, but rather a time period that can actually help you gain clarity and move forward in your life with greater understanding. If so, I’ve accomplished my mission…hopefully helping you to further accomplish yours.
